Class Description

Class begins with warming-up, stance and footwork drills, followed by a technique demonstration.  Then, you will practice the technique with a partner while also learning how to hold mitts, Thai pads, or a kick shield.  You will learn Kickboxing punches, elbows, kick, and knees while working up a sweat.

“Dutch-Style” Kickboxing, where both partners wear 16oz. boxing gloves, is also practiced in this class. Dutch-Style Kickboxing requires both partners to be active and practice both offensive and defensive moves. Kickboxing techniques will be broken down in detail. You will then practice the technique with your partner while instructors refine your technique.

During Kickboxing class, you will not get hit in the head or body – you will only hit the mitts/gloves. For advanced members belt ranked yellow and above, we offer an additional Sparring class time.

Take it to the next level. . .

The intermediate/advanced level Kickboxing classes welcome students who have graduated from our beginner level Kickboxing class at Rothwell MMA.  In the upper level classes, techniques are demonstrated then you practice with a partner while the instructor guides and corrects your form.  After practicing the techniques, put what you learned into action during the (optional) sparring time with other students. Sparring is a more realistic application of Kickboxing where you apply offensive and defense techniques as needed. Sparring is at a controlled level of intensity and power.

Kickboxing keeps students excited about learning and progressing with a traditional belt system.  Students begin as a white belt and work their way towards a black belt.  After showing progress, a “stripe” is earned.  After 4 stripes, the student knows they are ready to test for their next level belt.  Belts are earned, not given.  Each belt test has a specific set of moves and techniques that must be demonstrated.  The student will know what is on the test and will practice the necessary techniques in the weeks leading up to the test. Every student is unique and will “graduate” to the next level in their own time.

A few words from our students. . .

"Every time I walk in the gym, I am inspired by the amount of time and effort everyone puts into achieving their dreams. I love the family atmosphere. Rothwell accepts me thick or thin LOL. I've lost so much weight during the last 4 years...have gained it back...lost some more....and nobody judges EVER."

 Lana, member since 2016

"The coaches are the best out there! My kids have learned so much from them. I've seen a huge boost in their confidence and abilities. The kids have developed a “never give up” attitude. Martial arts has kept their attention and has made them strive to be better all the time."

Lilly, mother of 3 youth students

"I was born with a heart condition that left me with only half a heart. Kickboxing and BJJ gave me the exercise my heart needed that lifting or working out on my own couldn’t do. Since taking up classes at Rothwell MMA, my cardiologist has been absolutely blown away with the health of my heart. Training here is literally saving my life.

Matt, member & now a Rothwell MMA Coach

"Rothwell MMA has been my home away from home. Every day I'm pushing. Grinding. Leaving puddles of myself on the mats. Every day is a challenge but I simply cannot wait to get in there and do work."

Mike, Kickboxing Blue Belt

“I am a 22-year police veteran and currently serve as a patrol commander for a police department. I have studied martial arts for more than 20 years. I started at Rothwell MMA with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have since added Kickboxing to my training regimen. BJJ and Kickboxing both help keep me in shape and are essential training tools for my job. My fellow gym members are friendly, and the instructors are awesome teachers.”

Dwight, member since 2014
