Class Description

Learn how to defend yourself while having fun and getting fit!  Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a strategic, relatively nonviolent method of self-defense.  It utilizes leverage, locks and holds that can neutralize a bigger, stronger opponent.  Learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu submission, defense, take down, restraint, and escape techniques.  Effective self-defense skills are developed along with your level of strength, endurance, balance, coordination, and confidence.  After practicing the techniques, put what you learned into action while grappling with other students and instructor(s).

Our mixed level BJJ class welcomes students who have graduated from the Beginner BJJ class at Rothwell MMA, or have prior experience.  For ages 14+ years.

Discover the world of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.  Build your skills and boost your confidence with every move. Come try a complimentary class and see it in action for yourself.

The intermediate/advanced level Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu classes welcome students who have graduated from our beginner level BJJ class at Rothwell MMA (or with instructor approval.)  In the upper level classes, techniques are demonstrated then you practice with a partner while the instructor guides and corrects your form.  After practicing the techniques, put what you learned into action while grappling with other students.

BJJ keeps students excited about learning and progressing with a traditional belt system.  Students begin as a white belt and work their way towards a black belt.  After showing progress, a “stripe” is earned.  After 4 stripes, the student knows they are ready to test for their next level belt.  Belts are earned, not given.  Each belt test has a specific set of moves and techniques that must be demonstrated.  The student will know what is on the test and will practice the necessary techniques in the weeks leading up to the test.

A few words from our students. . .

"Every time I walk in the gym, I am inspired by the amount of time and effort everyone puts into achieving their dreams. I love the family atmosphere. Rothwell accepts me thick or thin LOL. I've lost so much weight during the last 4 years...have gained it back...lost some more....and nobody judges EVER."

Lana

"Love this gym and love my 'gym family.' That's what you get when you train here - support, love, and people trying to be a better version version of themselves. My only regret is that I waited to try it. Don't put off starting! You will feel so good mentally and physically. Do it for you. See you there!

Nick

"The coaches are the best out there! My kids have learned so much from them. I've seen a huge boost in their confidence and abilities. The kids have developed a “never give up” attitude. Martial arts has kept their attention and has made them strive to be better all the time."

Lilly

"I was born with a heart condition that left me with only half a heart. Kickboxing and BJJ gave me the exercise my heart needed that lifting or working out on my own couldn’t do. Since taking up classes at Rothwell MMA, my cardiologist has been absolutely blown away with the health of my heart. Training here is literally saving my life.

Matt

"Rothwell MMA has been my home away from home. Every day I'm pushing. Grinding. Leaving puddles of myself on the mats. Every day is a challenge but I simply cannot wait to get in there and do work."

Mike

“I am a 22-year police veteran and currently serve as a patrol commander for a police department. I have studied martial arts for more than 20 years. I started at Rothwell MMA with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and have since added Kickboxing to my training regimen. BJJ and Kickboxing both help keep me in shape and are essential training tools for my job. My fellow gym members are friendly, and the instructors are awesome teachers.”
