Realtor BeverlyA routine house showing in Arkansas led to one realtor’s tragic fate.  The man accused of kidnapping and killing Arkansas real estate agent Beverly Carter said she was targeted because she was “a woman that worked alone.”

As with many realty companies, the majority of employees where Beverly worked are women.  “They’re scared, and I need someone to give them some reassurance,” said Brenda Rhoads, the principal broker at the real estate company where Carter worked.  Some have said that Carter, a 50-year-old grandmother, should not have met the prospective buyer alone, but Rhoads dismissed those critiques, saying, “That’s our job.”  She arranged for a police detective to come and speak to her colleagues at Crye Leike Real Estate Services Monday to try and calm their fears.

However, the women need more than a conversation to calm their fears.  They need to arm themselves with effective solutions to prevent becoming assault victims.  Thirty-plus year Milwaukee police veteran and assault prevention officer, Horace Craft,  leads Ladies Self-Defense at Rothwell MMA.  Craft teaches awareness and preparation techniques as well as solutions to a variety of dangerous situations.
