Kickboxing is a great way to get in shape, learn to defend yourself, and build confidence! This MMA-style “Kickboxing” class is an integration of Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai and has applications for self-defense, competition, and fitness. Learn and develop your stance, footwork, and stand-up techniques with instructor and UFC Heavyweight Ben Rothwell. This class combines techniques from multiple martial art disciplines to provide the most real, effective, and modern striking system in the world.
Beginner Kickboxing class begins with a warm-up, continues with stance and footwork drills, and is followed by a technique demonstration. Then, you will practice the technique with a partner while also learning how to hold mitts, Thai pads, or a kick shield. Improve your speed and technique on the bag system that includes speed, heavy, double-end, uppercut, slip, and body bags. Strengthen and condition your body with 60 minutes of hard work that incorporates your entire body and mind.
Both Intermediate and Advanced Kickboxing welcome students ranked yellow belt and above who have graduated from the Beginner Kickboxing class at Rothwell MMA. In the Intermediate Kickboxing class, one partner wears 16oz. boxing gloves while the other partner holds mitts/Thai pads/kick shield. You will learn basic Kickboxing punches, elbows, kick, and knees while working up a sweat.
“Dutch Style” Kickboxing, where both partners wear 16oz. boxing gloves, is used in Advanced classes. Dutch Style Kickboxing requires both partners to be active and practice both offensive and defensive moves. Kickboxing techniques will be broken down in detail. You will then practice the technique with your partner while instructors refine your technique.
During Kickboxing class, you will not get hit in the head or body – you will only hit the mitts/gloves. For advanced members belt ranked yellow and above, we offer an additional Intermediate Sparring class time. Put what you have learned into practice during sparring. Sparring is a more realistic application of Kickboxing techniques where you apply offensive and defense techniques at a reduced level of intensity and power.
Rothwell MMA developed a unique Kickboxing belt system that keeps students excited about learning and advancing their skills. Students begin as a white belt and work their way towards a black belt. After showing progress, a “stripe” is earned. After 4 stripes, the student knows they are ready to test for their next level belt. Belts are earned, not given. Each belt test has a specific set of moves and techniques that must be demonstrated. The student will know what is on the test and will practice the necessary techniques in the weeks leading up to the test.
