Kickboxing

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Rothwell MMA’s “Kickboxing” is an integration of Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai and has applications for self-defense, competition, and functional fitness. Learn and develop your stance, footwork, and basic stand-up techniques with UFC Heavyweight Ben Rothwell. This class teaches kicks, elbows, knees, kicks, and defense techniques from multiple martial arts to provide the most real, effective, and modern striking system in the world. Strengthen and condition your body with 60 minutes of hard work that incorporates your entire body and mind.

Class begins with a warm-up, followed by a technique demonstration. Then, students practice the technique with a partner. On “Basic Mitt” days, one partner wears 16oz. boxing gloves while the other partner holds mitts, Thai pads, or a kick shield.  You will use basic Kickboxing punches, elbows, kick, and knees while working up a sweat.  During the “Dutch Style” classes, both partners wear 16oz. boxing gloves. Dutch Style Kickboxing encourages both partners to be active, practicing both offensive and defensive moves.  Dutch Style classes break down each Kickboxing move into detail.  You will then practice the move with your partner while instructors help refine your technique.  Master your kickboxing skills on the one-of-a-kind Kickboxing bag system that includes speed, heavy, double-end, uppercut, slip, and body bags. Fifteen unique  kickboxing bags allow you to work on speed, technique, and control.

During Kickboxing class, you will not get hit in the head or body, you will only hit the mitts/gloves. For advanced members ranked yellow and above, we offer light sparring while using full protective gear on select days.

Rothwell MMA developed a unique Kickboxing belt system that keeps students excited about learning and advancing their skills. Students begin as a white belt and work their way towards a black belt. After showing progress, a “stripe” is earned. After 4 stripes, the student knows they are ready to test for their next level belt. Belts are earned, not given. Each belt test has a specific set of moves and techniques that must be demonstrated. The student will know what is on the test and will practice the necessary techniques in the weeks leading up to the test.
