Kickboxing

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

Kickboxing is a great way to get in shape, learn to defend yourself, and build confidence!  This MMA-style “Kickboxing” class is an integration of Boxing, Kickboxing, and Muay Thai and has applications for self-defense, competition, and fitness.  Learn and develop your stance, footwork, and stand-up techniques with instructor and UFC Heavyweight Ben Rothwell.  This class combines techniques from multiple martial art disciplines to provide the most real, effective, and modern striking system in the world.

Class begins with warming-up, stance and footwork drills, followed by a technique demonstration.  Then, students practice the technique with a partner.  In “Level 2/ Mitt” classes, one partner wears 16oz. boxing gloves while the other partner holds mitts, Thai pads, or a kick shield.  You will learn basic Kickboxing punches, elbows, kick, and knees while working up a sweat. 

During the “Level 3/ Dutch Style” classes, both partners wear 16oz. boxing gloves. Dutch Style Kickboxing encourages both partners to be active, practicing both offensive and defensive moves.  Dutch Style classes break down each Kickboxing move into detail.  You will then practice the move with your partner while instructors refine your technique.

During Kickboxing class, you will not get hit in the head or body, you will only hit the mitts/gloves.  For advanced members belt ranked yellow and above, we offer “Level 2/ Intermediate Sparring.”   Put what you have learned into practice during sparring.  Sparring is a more realistic application of Kickboxing techniques where you put offensive and defense techniques into motion, at a reduced level of intensity and power.

Rothwell MMA developed a unique Kickboxing belt system that keeps students excited about learning and advancing their skills.  Students begin as a white belt and work their way towards a black belt.  After showing progress, a “stripe” is earned.  After 4 stripes, the student knows they are ready to test for their next level belt.  Belts are earned, not given.  Each belt test has a specific set of moves and techniques that must be demonstrated.  The student will know what is on the test and will practice the necessary techniques in the weeks leading up to the test.

Kickboxing Levels 2 & 3 welcome students belt ranked yelllow and above who have already graduated from the Kickboxing Level 1/ Beginner class at Rothwell MMA.  Level 4/ Advanced Sparring is by invitation only.
